| Vintage Book: The Master-Singers of Japan |

Poetry lovers, take advantage of this little gem to add to your collection and indulge yourself in this fine poetry book.
From the Wisdom of the East Series, published in London by John Murray in 1910, the verse translations from the Japanese poets are by Clara A. Walsh.
Walsh was one of the best known translators of famous poems that enabled the Western world to understand poetic thoughts from distant lands. This was the objective of the Wisdom of the East Series, edited by L. Cranmer-Byng and Dr. S. A. Kapadia. The printing is by Hazell, Watson & Viney Ltd, London and Aylesbury.
There are 120 pages of poems, varying from works by Kino Tsurayuki, Kamo no Chomei, Basho and the priest, Saigyo Hoshi. There are many works from the Manyoshu, which was an anthology of 4,516 Japanese poems compiled around AD 759 and contained the earliest known Japanese poems in existence. So this book is an invaluable resource for enlightenment and historical reference.
The Master-Singers of Japan contains a detailed index, editorial note and 7-page introduction by Clara A. Walsh. |
