| Buddhist Priest's KESA ROBE SET in Regal Purple |
You don't have to be a monk to appreciate this enchanting Kesa set!
Originally made in 1971 for a Japanese Buddhist high priest when he was elevated in his position, this elegant purple silk Kesa (robe), hat and Oohi (shoulder piece) are unique pieces of Japanese culture to wear or display.
Each part of this set is patterned with a regal geometric motif of soft purple upon a lighter shade, creating an enchanting shimmer effect. Paulownia and rounded flowers of pure gold twinkle in the light like suns in a twilight sky.
The nine paneled Kesa or Kujo-gesa is in the shape of a large rectangle (photo L2), wrapped around the left side of the body and tied with the loops in the corners. A pointed hat (photo L4) flows down the back, and a white centered Oohi shoulder piece (photo R5) covers the exposed right shoulder.
Wear or display all three together or enjoy them separately, the choice is up to you! |
