Antique SUZURI Calligraphy Stone with Bamboo Design

Both experienced and amateur calligraphers will enjoy this elegant Suzuri.

With raised platform and a carved bamboo design, and a small slot on the right to place your ink brush, this Suzuri is an object of art.

The Suzuri is a grinding stone used to make black Sumi ink. It has a sloping indentation which forms a small well at one end. A Sumi ink stick is ground on the stone surface with water to produce liquid ink.

This inkstone was produced in Akamaseki, current Shimonoseki city in Yamaguchi prefecture, famed for its beautiful Suzuri made out of quality stones.
