Collectors with an interest in Japanese history will want to add this jacket to their collection.
A paper adorned with silver shapes and gold calligraphy tells tales from the Boshin War, a civil war fought in the nineteenth century between suppoters of the Tokugawa shogunate and those who wished to restore the Emperor Meiji.
Gold threads woven through the glossy tan background create images of soldiers advancing on Edo Castle, which is depicted with its blue roofs on another paper shape. Edo was held by the pro-shogun futures and eventually surrendered.
Behind all these images looms Mt. Fuji, snowcapped and unmoved.
