This striking mask would have been used in a traditional Noh play and reflects the mysterious spell of Noh drama.
The Hannya is an image of a woman turned into a demon thorugh her own jealousy. Her knobby chin curves upward to a fanged mouth, while sharp horns grow out from a low-sloped brow over eerily pointed ears.
