Japan is known for the beauty of its variety of flowers and their viewing is an integral part of the Japanese appreciation of beauty in nature.
These prints originate from a book published in the 1950s that teaches us the art of Japanese flower arrangement and the intriguing symbolism in the Japanese culture behind each flower.
The prints are as fresh as if made today and the sheer attention to detail is just stunning. We presented them in a light moss green matt to bring out the colours of nature most beautifully.
The artfully trimmed double windows show an artistic floral display on one side and the symbolism of the flower on the other (see below for full text), with a delightful little poem on the upper right, just as portrayed in the original book.

Early in the spring when the mountain passes and the valley meadows begin to wake from their winter slumber the Narcissus lifes its 'hundred heads' above its shaft-like leaves and seems to look innocently at the strength of the rocks and the gnarled roots of forest trees.
The green and white delicacy of its presence graces most felicitous occasions. In case arrangements especially artistic effects can be achieved. In the realm of floral decoration these groups are considered the most formal type for interior displays. Everything in connection with a narcissus arrangement is 'formal' -the slender vase, the straight arrangement and the most 'formal' flowerholder, the 'well-crib'. This explains why it is one of the greatest favourites. |
