Japan is known for the beauty of its variety of flowers and their viewing is an integral part of the Japanese appreciation of beauty in nature.
These prints originate from a book published in the 1950s that teaches us the art of Japanese flower arrangement and the intriguing symbolism in the Japanese culture behind each flower.
The prints are as fresh as if made today and the sheer attention to detail is just stunning. We presented them in a light moss green matt to bring out the colours of nature most beautifully.
The artfully trimmed double windows show an artistic floral display on one side and the symbolism of the flower on the other (see below for full text), with a delightful little poem on the upper right, just as portrayed in the original book.

For a period of almost two months early in the year, the Camellia blooms in all the charm of its fragrant beauty. Camellias that grow in Japan are large and full-petaled, and the flossy oval leaves as well as the blossom itself, receive special attention in flower decoration, both the red and white varieties enjoy great popularity, often being combined with the willow.
None too happy is its symbolism, for the manner in which the flower drops bodily from the stem instead of falling petal by petal, suggests the idea of a beautiful life brought suddenly to an end. |
