These prints originate from a book published in the 1950s that teaches us the art of Japanese flower arrangement and the intriguing symbolism in the Japanese culture behind each flower.
The prints are as fresh as if made today and the sheer attention to detail is just stunning. We presented them in a light moss green matt to bring out the colours of nature most beautifully.

Because it preserves its fresh and colorful beauty for almost three weeks, peony is often called 'The Flower of Twenty Days'. It is especially favoured by the upper classes and is considered a symbol of prosperity, its companions in art being the peacock and a type of Lion derived from Chinese designs with which it often appears in frescos on temple and place walls.
When in bloom, the plants evoke great admiration and the people's excursions to view them almost approach pilgrimages, so deep is their love for this bright and multi-petaled member of the floral kingdom. |
