Japan is known for the beauty of its variety of flowers and their viewing is an integral part of the Japanese appreciation of beauty in nature.
These prints originate from a book published in the 1950s that teaches us the art of Japanese flower arrangement and the intriguing symbolism in the Japanese culture behind each flower.
The prints are as fresh as if made today and the sheer attention to detail is just stunning. We presented them in a light moss green matt to bring out the colours of nature most beautifully.
The artfully trimmed double windows show an artistic floral display on one side and the symbolism of the flower on the other (see below for full text), with a delightful little poem on the upper right, just as portrayed in the original book.

Almost before the winter snows have melted, the barren landscape welcomes the blooming of the Plum tree, the fragrance and delicacy of whose snowy white or light pink blossoms share with the angular tree itself, the older people's special admiration.
The Japanese see the contrast between the knotted trunks and young green shoots as symbolic of age and youth -one vent and crabbed, the other fresh and vigorous suggesting that in spite of age the charm and joy of youth can always rise anew. |
