Framed Repro Antique Photo: Young Women Clam Digging

This photo is a reproduction of an excellent quality hand tinted photograph from the Meiji period.

Hand tinted photographs became popular just after the turn of the 19th century in Japan, in the late Meiji period. It was the only way to bring natural colour to the photograph and was considered an art form, not necessarily affordable to all.

Now it is made available to you, with the same handmade texture and quality preserved, and artfully presented with black matt and frame with glass cover.

It is perfect as a gift or as an artistic contribution to the office wall.

Frame size: 8" x 10" (picture size: 5" x 7")

In this photo:
Two young women are enjoying success in their efforts to dig for clams at the shoreline, just ankle deep in calm water. Seafood is vital to the Japanese diet and these ladies are most resourceful!

The photographer chose to direct our eye to the foreground, with only a lonely fishing boat or two anchored in the background.
