| Meiji, Dye & Design Sample No.29 |

These beautiful dye and design samples were made by an individual artist or a group of talented painters in the Meiji period to present to kimono boutiques or the intermediating wholesalers.
The white base and frames of the samples are made of layers of Japanese washi papers with carefully crafted fine silk in the middle and black and narrower metallic boarders (also made of paper) in between. Each silk are made of different techniques and are all intricately hand-decorated with the most innovative designs and delicate colours.
The marks on the bottom corners or the backside of the samples represent the name of the artist or the leader of craftsmen who produced the works. It reads Kojima Shigetaro from Echigo region, now Niigata prefecture.
These beautiful items are in perfect shapes to be framed as a tasteful display at home or office, and are highly recommended collectibles for ardent kimono and textile collectors.
These are the final pieces of the Meiji Dye & Design Sample series for sale! |
