This Edo period little sculpture of Daikoku (the god of wealth) has a wonderful age patina over the surface. On the pictures it may seem as though the surface of the wood is slightly pealing, but these are just the natural wear on wood and the surface does not peal or crack off. There are a few chips on the rice bales, but again these have been made a long time ago and are not distracting flaws.
The Daikoku has an extremely graceful face. His benelovant expression has something in common to those of the old Buddhist sculptures. The piece has a very strong appeal and will be a great little companion whether placed on the corner of desk or bedside tables.
