Kitchen Deities - the adorable god of wealth -

This little wooden sculpture represents the god of wealth 'Daikoku' with his symbolic wish-granting mallet in his right hand and a sack over his left shoulder.

This adorable god must have been treasured in the old Japanese kitchen for a long time, he wears a beautiful natural black veil from smokes of stove (kamado) and the body is very light.

Produced by an anonymous craftsman from the Edo period, the abstract details yet again adds a great appeal to this subtle being. A few minor wear on the projecting areas, but the overall condition is very good.
