About us |
|
We started as an antique dealer in Japan in the 1990s. Japan is our homeland and we are very fond of her rich culture and beautiful artifacts. We have been collecting and captivated by items that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but are also ingrained in local tradition. To find the most exquisite and unique, we traveled to various, often remote locales and established numerous contacts with individuals, shops and antique dealers. In 2001, we moved to the United States in order to be close to our customers, and deliver our Internet orders fast, before anyone else. Perhaps influenced by our customers and friends in New York, our interest gradually shifted to the world of vintage kimono, as it is an art form that can be worn as well as collected. Anyone who has worn a kimono will understand our enchantment with the art of Japanese costume. At KimonoLily, we treasure the exquisite and intricate textiles used in kimonos, which show the high quality of Japanese craftsmanship. Each piece is wonderfully different and an example of this unique culture. Before long, we established ourselves as a Japanese kimono dealer and one of the largest vintage kimono suppliers in the United States, with a wide range of Japanese fashions. Our large selection of kimonos, haori and obis is a reflection to our love and support of traditional textile design. We go back to Japan every month to pay respect to our contacts and maintain a fresh new line-up on our website. Shopping at KimonoLily (formerly CHUU) is exciting, quick and easy. Our website is updated regularly and our kimono inventory is vast, ranging from everyday wear to museum quality artwork, all from various places and times, and for prices that you can afford. Also, you will find informative descriptions and pictures, helpful introductions to the history and culture of Japan, and many other unique services that are friendly and sincere. We welcome amateur enthusiasts, serious collectors and dealers, and those who are just browsing our site. Our office and warehouse are located in Brooklyn, New York. We are not open to public, but you can meet us at weekend flea markets, both in Brooklyn and New York City. If you are interested in our upcoming exhibitions or would like to receive timely information on new items, please subscribe to our email newsletter. We would love to share the joy of collecting and wearing kimono with you. Yuriko Tasaka & Tetsuo Matsumoto, Founders |
